Hi, I’m Kelly Mathews, the breeder behind Ravenrose Gordon Setters.
We strive to produce Gordons Setters with beauty, brains and birdsense, as defined by the Gordon Setter Club of America. Our program was built with care, intention and extensive research in every step. We are passionate about the health, wellbeing and preservation of this wonderful breed and it is our goal to provide each dog that comes from our program with a solid foundation of good health, neurological development, and loving care.
We believe in producing Gordon Setters that have retained the instinct to do what they were developed to do-find and point birds-should their owners desire a companion in the field, conformation aligned with the AKC and GSCA standard and most importantly, have the temperament to be loving members of the family. Our Gordons live in our home, sharing it with one rescued mixed-breeds and they enjoy frequent visits from our local grandchildren, now aged 6 and 10.
Our foundation Gordons earned their Junior Hunt titles and won Specialty shows. Our pick girl from their litter, Kady, CH Ravenrose Eclipse Over Skylight, also shows great promise for fieldwork, and we hope to earn her first field title in 2026. We have plans to work towards scentwork and obedience with our boy, Korbin, CH Shiloh’s First Snow at Windcrest JH.
We performed all health tests recommend by our national breed club and many others we felt better informs our breeding decisions on our foundation Gordons and offspring we retain to continue our breeding program. Both our foundation Gordons, Keira and Korbin, have their CHIC certification from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), demonstrating we have elected to make public all tests required by our National Breed Club and others we elect to perform. We test for the following: CAA, PRA rcd4, Hips and Elbow screening. In addition, we test basic cardiac function. Finally, we screen for e-Locus, the red gene. It is absent in our foundation Gordons and their offspring, meaning any Gordons we produce will be black and tan only, with the occasional, acceptable small white spot on their chests.

I maintain good standing with the American Kennel Club, and am an active member of the Gordon Setter Club of America, the TarTan Gordon Setter Club, the Albany Kennel Club, the Canadian Kennel Club, the Gordon Setter Club of Canada and a Conditional member of the Albany Obedience Club.
